We have a hand raised Eclectus named Christopher. He’s currently about 20 years old, he’s a pet. We got him a mate many many years ago and bred many from them. They never fed the chicks so we had to hand raise them as well.
To be honest Chistopher was never really attentive to his mate and was at times quite aggressive - she died a few years ago - maybe his treatment of her was somewhat of a factor. We tried other hens over the years but his aggression made it clear he wanted none of them. In reality he is bonded to me.
I have heard similar stories. Is our story the norm?
My duskys are both hand reared and about to have first eggs.. hopefully she hatches them. But itll be a good and interesting experience.
My alexandrines spent 10 years as pets, the owner refused to even let them mate. So when they come to me, i gave a box and they laid, hatched and raised very well. She hatched 3 out of 4 for first clutch with one DIS and the second was 2 out of 2.
Ive had scalys where one hand raised and one not. Successfully hatch 2 out of 2 and raise perfectly to fledging.
