I took the accompanying photos of Black-headed Nuns to run with an article that I published in Aviarylife magazine a decade or so ago. They are certainly a very attractive finch species, as are the other members of the Lonchura genus, but I do not recall ever seeing any of them in overly large numbers in Australian finch collections. Is this an accurate assessment of the status of not only the Black-headed Nun, but also the other nuns that are present in Australian aviaries? If so, what do you think the reason for their lack of popularity is? And also what other species are present and/or established in Australian aviculture?

When I photographed this bird, the breeder informed me that it was the first one that he had produced like it - he was unsure if it was a possible mutation or a hybrid? Has anyone else seen examples like this? What are your thoughts?
