Like most finch lovers, Gouldians have captivated me from the moment that I first saw them, I mean, how could they not? They are just so stunning! For me, I cannot go past the normal wild-type specimens, regardless of the head colour. If I had to choose a favourite normal type, I would say that I rank them in the following order in terms of head colour - orange/yellow, black, red. But, there's certainly not much between them, they are all gorgeous. I personally do not feel that any of the mutations are nicer than the normal wild-type, but in saying that I do agree that many of them are still beautiful, I just don't believe that we can possibly improve upon the wild-type colouration; they are literally rainbows with wings!
Do many breeders still keep pure wild-type Gouldians? Or are most normal looking birds split for one or more mutations these days? And do you have a favourite head colour?
I would love to read your feedback!
