Thinking back to when I was a kid, I remember the Java Sparrow as being a common aviary bird in Australia. I kept them myself for a number of years as a teenager. Unfortunately it seems as though they have slipped off the radar over the past couple of decades and from my experience have become a rather uncommon species in Australian aviaries. Is this a fair assessment of the situation or are there still good number of these little guys being kept and bred here?
