Whilst I had seen the Pesquet's Parrot Psittrichas fulgidus on a couple of previous occasions, it was during my first visit to the Czech Republic in 2010 that the species truly caught my eye. Upon entering Čestmir Drozdek's facility it was immediately clear that his birds were provided with the utmost of care; they were all in tip top shape. It was however, when I caught my first glimpse of his Pesquet's, that my breath was really taken away; they were simply stunning and by far the best looking examples of the species that I had ever seen!
This incredible species hails from New Guinea and has never been common in aviculture, however the results that Mr Drozdek achieved with them shows that it is certainly possible to maintain and breed them successfully in captivity.

Saw them in Loro Parque. Beautiful and impressive.
