I have always been captivated by the toucan family; they are such a unique and overwhelmingly stunning group of birds. Among the toucan species that I’ve been lucky enough to see during my world travels, the Plate-billed Mountain Toucan sits high on my list of highlights. They are uniquely coloured among the family and are a species that hails from humid high altitude forests in western Ecuador and the extreme south of Colombia. They are present in very few collections worldwide; a definite treat to observe!
